Things I shall have when I own my own flat

1. A wooden toilet seat.

2. Concrete work surfaces in the kitchen.

3. A robot to do all my vacuuming (well, probably not, but I can dream).

4. A heated towel rail

Incidentally, I have come to the conclusion that I write better with a
cheap biro than with any expensive pen. You don't know how distressing
I find this discovery. I love pens. I have a serious weakness for nice
stationery. And now I discover that I'm better with a sheet of lined A4
and a biro. I guess I should be pleased, but I'm deeply upset. It's
kind of hard to explain why this should be such a deep and terrible
thing, but it is, okay? It strikes deep at the heart of my self-image
as the sort of well-dressed man-about-town who tosses off deadly
bon mots while sipping tea with racy aunts.

Which sounds ludicrous, when you actually come out and say it. And
anyway, I have none of those qualities. If I popped up in a PG
Wodehouse novel it would be as a loopy, absent-minded (but sarcastic)
cousin who gets into a fearful scrape in the Metropolis and whose
affairs will be in dire straits indeed unless Jeeves can come up with
one of his schemes to extricate me from my engagement with a chorus
girl and retrieve my laptop on which I have written many incriminating
blog entries, mostly concerning Tara and her habit of wearing
a hat while driving.

Bathroom supplies are one of my weaknesses. When I moved out of my mom's place and into my own apartment, I went crazy looking for the perfect color scheme for my small bathroom. The walls are white, which makes any color jump out. Since it was the bathroom, I wanted an ocean sort of theme. I found shower curtain rings in the shape of fish and palm trees, and then I bought a sea-foam colored toilet seat cover. Then I changed it later to a navy blue. I like toilet seat covers and odd shower curtain rings. Oh and cool toothbrush holders.

I understand your weakness for great stationary. I love pens and Post-It notes. I also understand how upsetting it is that you write better with someone other then a pen. I have moments when I can't write well with either a pen or pencil. Strange. What I would like someday is a laptop to carry with me so that I can fill it with "incriminating blog entries, mostly concerning" guys who write better with "a sheet of lined A4 and a biro". :)

So have you since moved into your own flat? When you do, take photos and share.

Wow, this was a long comment...

Ah, the laptop thing is very cool, I must admit. In fact, since it's way past my bedtime, I can now pick up the laptop and take it with me and finish this comment there.

Okay. No I have not yet moved into my own flat. Still househunting, which I loathe :(. I will be moving out of this flat in three weeks, though: I'm housesitting for a lady who's off to India for three months, and the chance of living rent free for a bit was too tempting! Not entirely looking forward to it, though. I shall miss this flat, it's seriously lovely and the location is wonderful - Stockbridge is like a little village, but ten minutes' walk from the centre of Edinburgh. I'm separated from the Royal Botanical Gardens only by Leith water, which is a small river running at the end of the street. It's all cobbled streets and stone buildings, and it's just deeply, deeply pretty. I shall have to get the good camera out and take some photos before I leave (sniff!).

Unfortuately, it's also seriously expensive to rent, and I can no longer live so far beyond my means. Bugger.

True of me, too.

The pen I'm most comfortable with is my parker fountain pen. It feels like custom-made for me! Then comes my Sheaffer fountain pen. Since cartridges for it (a pack of five) are very expensive, I'd been looking for a filler for it. Finally, by chance, when I least expected it, I got one. To my delight I also got a bottle of Sheaffer original black ink.

Good stationery is a weakness and I end up buying and collecting one or other.
