I want one of these (2): Solar lamp

Gorgeous solar lamp with the solar panels incorporated into the design! That's something special.

I wasn't going to bother sharing this, but dammit, everyone needs a bit of extra elegance in their lives.

I wondered if the photo-cells collect light and recharge the batteries (a little), at night too

very nice but where do you get them?

Uh...dunno. Actually, I suspect you can't and you'll never be able to - this is probably some fledgling designer's party piece and only one will ever be made before the thing vanishes for ever. All the more reason to blog it and preserve it for posteriority!

That would appear to be a good question. Try emailing the creator. (I'm thinking this is a pre-production model, and he hasn't gone as far as actually manufacturing them yet.)

My mom has two solar lanterns with the panels on top. They don't look like panels either. The lanterns are really nice and I just remembered that she gave them to me but I still have to pick them up from her place.

Twenty years ago I bought a very simple toy, a small DC motor that stood on its armature and was capped by a round solar panal fringed with yellow plastic petals. It was, in essence, a "sun" flower that spun 'round endlessly. I haven't seen one since, although a few sources appear on the internet.

This? Looks fun. You can buy one here.

Sounds like my hat.

Not very efficient. At any given time, half the panels are in the shade. Not too hard to make a cheap knockoff of this design, though. Get a bunch of these, glue them to one of these and wire it up to the guts of this.

Hey! If you mounted the solar panels so that they faced the bulb, the lamp could power itself and the spare light that came out would be free!
