Tour de France 2007 - Prologue

I had an unscheduled trip to London this weekend, where (as luck would have it) about a zillion other people had also decided to spend their time. Also, as luck would have it, it was the Tour de France. I suspect these two might have been related.

Anyway, I spent a considerable part of Saturday up a tree, with my camera, taking photos of the time trials which preceded the race proper. I'm afraid I got a little trigger-happy - I managed to take something like one hundred and fifty photos before the battery died. This is a selection of the best, from which you can infer the number of photos I shot which consisted entirely of some blurred pavement.

Cool - it's always fun chancing upon some major event without knowing it's on. The same thing happened to me. Fortunately the time trials were over by the time I arrived, but even so my cabbie had a tricky time getting around the barricades.

But I caught the start of the first leg, right around the corner from the club I'm staying at. Funniest thing was, hours before the race began, the massed armies of event coordinators in their fluorescent coats, waiting for instructions.

And I have to say that the blue skies and puffy white clouds were, pleasantly, not at all what was forecast on the web sites.

Just you wait!. I went down to the Gravesend Road and took a couple of snaps from my phone. If you wanna see bad pictures, I'll give you bad pictures!. I'll upload them later today.

From where I stood (Kent!) they all flashed-by so quickly I wouldn't have stood a chance at getting pictures anywhere near as nice as those - Great shots - Send them in (there's a link on the TdF website)

Thanks! At the time, I regretted not having a whole peloton to photograph, but in hindsight, it was a real blessing - I had two hours of riders coming past one by one in which to practice!

Far and away my favourite.

That is a *sweet* photo.

wtf? Some sort of weird window pops up when I actually click on a photo, saying 'Who is this?' and giving me a list of everyone I know. I've never seen this before! Presumably this is some sort of 'send photos to people in the photo' kind of thing. Has anyone else seen this?

Multiply's been doing it for a while. They seem to be assuming a heck of a lot.

I'll take the rap for this - I couldn't help myself when I saw the picture

Hah! Excellent!

I must admit, the first time I accidentally clicked on a picture and got a cyclist's arse, it did occur to me to wonder who I could name it as.
