In reality, this is more of an introduction to rapid prototyping rather than a serious way of getting stuff made... but it's pretty cool.

You are absolutely correct--CAD/CAM and triple-axis milling (or 3D "printing") are primarily design tools at this point. But there are also some serious implications for future of manufacturing and transportation here; Abu in Delhi may well one day be e-loading a design to your personal "manufacturing station" after your credit card clears. No muss--no fuss; "thank you come again."

Does anyone here reprap?

Not sure how I feel about the Reprap project. For one thing, it's all very well making a machine which can replicate itself, but it's not exactly self sufficient - it requires a constant feed of a highly specialized plastic. And (at the moment) there are several crucial parts which the project as it stands will never be able to replicate. So what's the point?

On the other hand, the idea of building myself a cheap rapid prototyping machine is verrry cool Some day...
