Someone (mentioning no names) is getting a photobook for Christmas. I decided this at the weekend. Can anyone recommend a photobook service? There seem to be lots.
The only books I've seen were the ones produced by Apple - their graphics software (Aperture?) has some sort of automatic 'make this a book' button, which a friend of mine used. The end result looked really good, although the editing wasn't to my taste.
I'm a guinea pig for Kodak. They gave one to me for free once, for testing their software. It came out quite nice, but then I didn't have to pay for it.
Sadly, I think I just deleted a coupon good for Kodak knicknacks I'd have gladly let you use!
I made it all the way to the end with MyPublisher, but never clicked print. They have good software that should make a very professional looking product.
Oh - didn't come across that one. I tried Bob Books and myphotobook, but ended up going with the Bob Books one as the software was less annoying. I don't say it wasn't annoying, it really feels like a fight to get the thing how I want it, but the myphotobook one was just crap.
I'll let you know what the endproduct turns out like!
I vaguely remember a US friend getting married and having his wedding photos put into a photobook by a place called Blurb... (but I haven't a clue how good the end product turned out to be).
I know what you mean. I keep dreaming of writing my own Presentation Skills book. Trouble is that I'm so busy procrastinating, I just about get my work dealdines done, let alone new projects. I really should light that rocket under my a$$...
Well, it turned up - and it turned out pretty well. The cover looks fab, and the photos have come out okay. They're a little darker than they look on screen, which has improved some of them and, well, others not so. The paper is surprisingly heavy. In general, I'd recommend it - but you might want to lighten your images a tad to get the right result.
If you had all the money in the world it would be interesting to send off the same photo sets to each of the sites referenced here and find out--at least to your own critical eye--which one does the most faithful replication and production of your images.
I haven't checked the sites comparatively, but what kind of money would that entail?

Not from experience, I'm afraid. I was tempted to do something similar last year but wimped out...
I'd be tempted to go with Jessops

I've looked at Blurb - they were advertised from Flickr. I haven't used them though.
The Book Ideas window on the Blurb site is certainly inspiring. Almost makes me want to pick up a camera and make my own book!

Those Blurb ones do look really good... I've sent mine off now, will just wait and see. I already have a backup present, though :)

Well... I got an A4 size book for £35. But I think you can get little flickbooks for less.
