Part of a quite interesting slideshow about plane contrails. I always assumed that the world was too big to really be affected by one li'l plane, but these photos would suggest a different story.
That's one of the things that annoys me about how cheap and plentiful air travel has become - it may be good for us when we travel, but train travel really is the better way to go for short to intermediate distances.
Hence my post elsewhere that we should use aircraft to seed the atmosphere deliberately, to produce more contrails and generate a mild "nuclear winter" effect to cool the earth and reverse global warming.

There was a study done, just after 9/11, when all aircraft flights were suspended.
