One small step for a man, actually.
As the BBC reports today, apparently new analysis of Neil
Armstrong's famous words shows that he really did say "That's one small
step for a man", as he's often claimed. (When you
can get him to do an interview at all - the man is famously hard to pin
down).
I'd like to put the same question to you lot as the BBC are asking on
their blog: What would you have said if you'd been the first person on
the moon? At your current age, obviously, rather than the age you were
in '69.
I think mine would have been much less edifying than Neil's: something along the lines of "Holy Crap! I'm On the MOON!"

"I knew I should have brought my fondue fork..."
Is, "Space.... the final frontier," too obvious?
I found this news report strange - whenever I've heard the Neil Armstrong tape, I've heard the "a".
I'd say "Hmm - it's not as big as I thought it was going to be"
- H
"I made it! Yussss!"
Maybe they can cure Capt Kirk's split infinitive*
*Yes, I know there ain't no such beast in English, it was purely for comedic effect.
Never realized anyone ever thought he said anything else.
"Well, there goes the neighborhood!"
I'm not sure what I'd have said but I know what I'd be thinking:
Please don't trip, please don't trip, please don't trip.
Something along these lines, I think.
And he said nothing to Mr Gorsky :(

"Arrrgh! Shit! It's got me! Just kidding..."
"One small step for Ramen [noodles]..."
"...for women..."
"...for Amanda..."
"...for Raymond..."

"Didn't I say I wanted the dark side?"
'Does my bum look big in this suit?'
"Where's the bar?"
"Despite what you'll hear, this isn't the Arizona desert."

oh, and http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/050304_moon_snoop.html
(Of course, they would have to say that to get any help from NASA in the future!)

That was vaguely disappointing (not your fault, of course!). I was hoping for things like, "When Neil Armstrong brushes the rock with the lunar buggy, it wobbles like a piece of cardboard" and "In frame 10 of Buzz Aldrin planting the flag, you can see the camera boom."
(My own explanation of why it has to be real: it doesn't look like Star Trek. Besides, I heard it all on the radio.)
I watched it on TV. If they were going to fake it I would suggest they could have done better work on the image clarity.
Wendslydale?
"Would'ya lookit the size of those gophers!"
"Oops!", followed by a long silence.
Hah, yeah. I liked the one about the Sputnik launch:
"Two-foot Tin Ball Threatens Free World!"
"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?"
"Hey, I can take giant steps. I hope my legs don't break."
'Man, that was a long journey. Where's the bathroom?"
"Ground control to Major Tom."
"This is Major Tom to Ground Control..." - shirley?
Actuall, on second thoughts, if he did fluff his lines, you'd have thought they would have just re-shot the scene... :)
It is the truest book ever written.
"Hang on... this is the Moon! Damn it! my bags are on Mars"
The papers want to know whose shirts I wear?
