Putting your day to music

There are certain moments in my day which have songs inextricably linked to them. Two examples spring to mind:

  1. When closing Unigraphics on the ol' CAD machinen, a dialogue box pops up which says "Do you really want to exit?" For some reason, that always plays in my head to the tune of "Do you really want to hurt me?" by Culture Club.
  2. Similarly, we have a sandwich man who comes in during the morning to sell us sandwiches (actually we have two, but now isn't the time to get into the Riccarton Sandwich Wars). His cheery cry of "Sandwiches!" always starts me off singing "Sandwiches, da da da da da da da sandwiches" to the tune of whatever that song is that goes "hooray for Hollywood"...

Are there any parts of your life that seem to have attracted tunes?

I've started humming "Devil's Gallop" on my way to work after having seen too much "Surprising Adventures of Sir Digby Chicken-Caesar".

this happens to me all the time. My kids used to fuss at me for singing at odd moments.

The mail truck comes, "ooooh the wells fargo wagon is a-comin round..." from Music Man.
Walking the dog outside at night " starry starry night,,,"
on and on it goes.

Whenever I see a local delivery service here called "A man and a van", I can't help singing it to the tune of Belle & Sebastian's "I fought in a war". This also happens when I see "Stars in Fast Cars" in the TV listings...

<old timer>This takes me back to the "What's That Hill?" thread of August 2000...</old timer>

For me, it starts early in the day, whilst looking at myself in the mirror, shaving: Radiohead's Creep.
On the M25: Madness' "I like driving in my car" or more likely Steeler's Wheel "Stuck in the middle".

I recently bought the soundtrack to "Kill Bill: Volume 1", and there are two songs (both instrumental) I love to start the day with, because I remember the scenes from the movie:

"Green Hornet" by Al Hirt and
"Battle Without Honor or Humanity" by Tomoyasu Hotei

Is Hotei the guitarist?
I think that I have him on a "Merry Axemas" CD of all your guitar greats. I may be wrong on the name, though!.

There was a while, back when I was Chief Executive in Charge of Photocopying, that I would spend my time in the wee photocopying dookit, staring blankly at nothing, singing a song of my own composition:
"I am going to KILL you [it ran]
I am GOING to kill you
I am going to kill YOU
F ck f ck f ck f ck."

I have a different job now.

I had a maths teacher who I always hummed the Darth Vader tune as she walked into the classroom.

"The algebra is strong with this one"
"Ah, I see Miss Homes has taught you well, but you are no match for my superior higher maths..."

Yeah, me and my friends had this thing going that secretly she was Darth Tipple (well, that's what her signature looked like. Seriously. A parapraxia, anyone?)

On that note, when I was at Uni, the lecturer in mercantile law was called Swinney, which led to me and another singing the theme tune to The Sweeny and saying things like "I'm the Swinney and I haven't had any dinner" etc whenever he entered the room.
